Capilano Park offers residents of Edmonton access to the North Saskatchewan River and surrounding green space, including year-round outdoor amenities, from picnic areas and a boat launch in warm weather to trails for skiing and snowshoeing in winter.

When the Capilano Park parking lot required rehabilitation, the City of Edmonton engaged Arcadis IBI Group to conduct an initial feasibility assessment, followed by conceptual, preliminary and detailed design services. Finally, we provided construction administration services, ensuring a smooth building process and high-quality final product for the City and its residents.

The rehabilitation comprised an estimated 3,700 square meters of asphalt and 1,100 meters of walkway remediation. In addition, 105 meters of new stormwater drainage pipes were installed.

As the project progressed, other City departments expressed interest in further expansion of the parking lot to accommodate additional off-site parking to meet their needs. We provided traffic site assessments to determine the additional parking requirement.

During this project, we employed our in-house proprietary remote site inspection software. This technology enabled us to efficiently and accurately itemize and categorize site features, view photos, check maintenance status and assign location markers relative to uploaded PDF images.

The Capilano Parking Lot Rehabilitation project ultimately ensured a better user experience for Capilano Park visitors as well as people interacting with other city departments.

A new mobile ecosystem is changing the way we interact with and move throughout our cities.
